Summary: | The Singapore economy has matured. As part of the long term strategy to stay
ahead, the government has been encouraging local businessmen to venture into the Asia
Pacific Region.
Being the fastest growing region in the world, Asia Pacific offers vast opportunities
for investors to exploit. Many new markets such as China, India and Vietnam are emerging
from this region.
This study seeks to provide the Singapore businessmen with an assessment of the
investment climate in Vietnam, and to evaluate the opportunities and pitfalls in investing
there. The information in this study was based on literature reviews from various journal
and newspaper articles, as well as interviews with businessmen who have already invested
in Vietnam.
From our study, we draw the following conclusions :
1. Tremendous opportunities exist in Vietnam for those willing to invest for
the long term.
2. Being an emerging market, there are still some unresolved issues such as an
inadequate infrastructure and a poor legal system.
Therefore, it should be noted that while there are rewards to be reaped, investors
must be prepared to accept the realities of doing business in Vietnam. Flexibility and
patience may prove to be the right strategies for getting started and succeeding in Vietnam. |
