Description
Summary:Latticework is a framework that consists of simple geometric patterns. These patterns are achieved by arranging motifs in a rhythmic manner. This projects aims to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, SolidWorks, equipped with an Application Program Interface (API) program to design simple motifs and create patterns designs using the created motifs. This project will look into the various functions of the API program which past year student Lua Ying Han had done. Modifications are made to the API program so that it will be able to work on the current operating system, SolidWorks 2014, and further improvements are made to the current API program to create a variety of latticework. Instead of using just squared bordered quadrant to create a motif, the program allows the user to use squared bordered quadrant or non-bordered quadrant or a mixture of both to create a unique motif. This unique motif will be used to create a pattern, which will later be fitted into a frame, The API program which the author created allows the user to select between creating normal window/door grills or stained glass window/door. After doing so, the user can create a new quadrant design or upload one or choose one of the ready-to-use quadrant designs provided to design a motif. Then, the user is able to choose 1 out of 4 ways to build the motifs into a pattern and create the glass if necessary. Finally, the user is able to choose the pattern composition, frame type and dimension it to fit the space in which the final design will be used in. In the past, these patterns are usually hand-drawn, mostly in 2D. Thus, designing these patterns are very time consuming, confusing and inaccurate. With the help of SolidWorks and the API program, it provides a faster, more efficient and accurate way to design these patterns. The final 3D design will give the user clearer idea of how the design will look like when the product is made and with the help of SolidWorks, the user can insert these pattern designs into houses or doors to have an idea how the overall will look like when the design is used.
