Data, today, is infinitely large whereby the human capacity of retaining information and knowledge is often limited. This meant that knowledge management is increasingly more and more essential in our lives. In engineering, knowledge retention in an organisation is increasingly difficult, coming up with an expert system that would help organisation manage databases and enable them to work more efficiently. Stewart (1997) noted that intellectual capital is “organized knowledge that can be used to produce wealth”. This project saw the need and opportunity to develop an expert system, which would be built up in a modular manner, to demonstrate the concept of an effective knowledge management. Whilst the scope covers mainly on the “ISO11745 – Brazing for aerospace applications – Qualification test for brazers and brazing operators – Brazing of metallic components”, the modularity structure of the system meant that it would provide for flexibility to house different database in other potential developments in the future. The core essence of this solution is to illustrate, through the education and use of software, knowledge management as well as retention in an organisation is not unmanageable.
