Description
Summary:Retaining wall design is crucial for modern construction works that requires stabilization for modified terrain. The computation for the design of a retaining wall requires knowledge on soil parameters and the lateral earth pressure induced. The design of the retaining wall contains uncertainties caused by construction, site environment, human error, soil parameters etc. In Eurocode 7, these uncertainties are considered with the use of partial factors. On the other hand, reliability based design takes these uncertainties into the calculation and provide measurements of probability of failure in reliability index. The project was carried out with an objective of performing and comparing both Eurocode 7 and reliability based design on a retaining wall. The results for both designs were compared. The design was performed using Microsoft Excel to obtain the embedment depth for a case study. The design results was compared to identify the difference of both design methods. This report provided a spreadsheet to obtain accurate results for the design and detailed study on both design methods.
