This hypothesis postulates that the probability of resting of a part on one of its faces is directly proportional to the area of the face and inversely proportional to the height of the centroid from that particular face. In addition to this, a factor called "Contribution factor" has been introduced which accounts for rolling or toppling of the part. The objective for developing this method is to find out computationally a very simple, less time-consuming method that can be used as a rule of thumb in day to day life in industry while designing the orienting devices for automated assemblies.
