In the past, it has follow human evolution and evolve along with us from earthenware to pottery to cements and bricks to glass. However, in recent years, it has seen tremendous growth from traditional ceramics to advanced ceramics; from porcelain plates to space shuttle tiles. With such big transformation, over a relatively short period of time, it makes one wonder how will the role of ceramic be like as countries move into smart cities. This paper will explore the possible applications of ceramic in smart city, specifically in smart mobility, smart grid and smart environment. The mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical properties of advanced ceramics will first be explore to find out what makes the superb transformation possible. Thereafter, the paper will look into the applications and mechanisms of advanced ceramic in the above mentioned dimension of smart city.
