Summary:For an inverter to achieved high voltage rating, it needed to connect to the power semiconductor device and one of the devices will be multilevel inverter. Total there are a few different type of multilevel inverter but for this project it focus on two simple multilevel inverter which are diode clamped inverter and flying capacitor inverter. Multilevel inverter is able to achieve high quality output for example less THD (Total harmonic distortion), simply by increase the number of level and select the appropriate switching angle. The main objective is to design and development of multilevel converter with reduced component counts and costs are of interest while achieving good performances and better efficiency. The focus of the final year project will be mainly on the new 7-level multilevel design of combination of Diode Clamped and Flying Capacitor Inverter. Software named Altium Designer is being used for the designing and creating of the PCB. This software is evaluated in this project and procedure of creating the test circuit, creating the components, drawing of the schematic, components placement, and routing and fabrication output files is presented. In addition, some ideas are also proposed for future developments for the hardware and others to improve the performance of the multilevel inverter.
