Description
Summary:When a motor vehicle accident occurs, the parties that are involved are the injured third party, the tortfeasor, the insurance company and the Motor Insurers' Bureau(MIB). The person who suffers most is the third party and therefore, it is important to provide adequate compensation to him. This adequate compensation arises from the rights that the third party has against those parties related to the motor accident. The purpose of this study is to determine the rights of the third party involved in a motor accident against the tortfeasor, motor insurer and the MIB. The study is based mainly on literature review and interviews. The interviews were conducted with Singapore Insurance Institute, MIB and a lawyer. In Singapore, it can be seen that the rights of the third party is protected adequately in a motor vehicle accident. However, fur.ther improvements can be made to the present system to provide greater coverage of protection to the third party.
