Summary: | This project calculates the total building value of Mumbai, India, in order to estimate the direct damage costs to the city in the event of a natural hazard. In the paper, we consider Mumbai’s flood events. Using these building value estimates as well as projected population of Mumbai, the total building value is projected from 2015 to 2050. Further, affected exposure and mean damage ratios are applied to obtain reasonable estimates of direct damage costs due to a flood event similar in magnitude to that of the July 2005 Maharashtra floods. |
