Summary:Greenhouse gas emissions have been huge areas of concern in recent years. This is because greenhouse gas emissions are directly associated with the issue of global warming. With climate change and polar ice caps melting, it is of utmost importance to curb emissions from all over the world. It should be noted that controlling of emissions from manufacturing sectors is relatively easier as compared to waste sector. In waste sector, it is almost impossible to trace the emissions and the potential emissions from solid waste directly. There are however various estimation tools to calculate emissions from treatment of solid waste processes. Estimation tools aside, the implementation of proper waste management system can help to reduce emissions from source. In this report, the case study of Singapore waste management system is studied. Research was done for various innovative waste management methods used in Singapore to help reduce solid waste at source, and also other waste management techniques. Analysis of Singapore’s success and flaws in waste management can also be found in the report. Subsequently, both South Korea and Taiwan are used as case studies for recommendations to improve Singapore’s waste management and strive towards a zero waste goal.
