Description
Summary:Climate change affects our environment in many aspects, and varies according to the weather conditions in different countries. For a tropical country like Singapore, climate change would mainly constitutes of effects of rainfall and temperature. Singapore is mainly made up of buildings and infrastructure, and the negative effects of rainfall and temperature could be observed from the building defects. A case study of the history of buildings in Singapore was done to compare the structures of historical buildings and present-day high rise buildings. This will help us better understand the type of defects which are likely to hit the different building elements and the risks associated to them. Furthermore, we also assessed the severity of the building defects affecting the buildings constructed before and after 1990s in Singapore. By doing so, it helped us better understand the risks associated to present-day high-rise buildings in Singapore. This study adopted the PIEVC protocol methodology, which was used in the assessment of climate change impacts on the building elements in Singapore. A research was done on the future projections of climate changes over the century. Thereafter, a survey was conducted to assess the risk of these climate changes on the different building elements by engineers and consultants.
