An instantaneous demand principle will be used for shedding and restoring loads. Its purpose is to maintain the power consumption within the limit of the intended maximum demand. This is known as maximum demand management. There is a need to gradually modify the current power grid into a smarter grid. This is primarily due to aging of the grid’s infrastructure, increasing demand on the demand side and the use of outdated technology. As a result, the power grid became incapable of detecting and reacting in the event of sudden peak and drop in energy demand. In addition, it was observed that there is an average power loss of seven to fifteen percent across the grid. This project has a purpose to bring forth a practical implementation for demand management. This can be seen from the use of commonly seen clean energy resources such as wind turbine and solar photovoltaic (PV). On the research level, fuel cell and solar PV coupled with the use of energy storage devices were used. For the simulation, National Instrumentation LabVIEW will be used.
