Antennas play a very important role in communications system and radar systems because the antenna qualities have a great influence on these equipment. Naturally, people make a large effort to improve the performance of antenna. Taking the cost and future utilization for 2-dimensional physical geometry into consideration, microstrip antenna is chosen as a capable antenna. Actually, many kinds of antennas can be used in mm wave systems, among which Grid Array Antenna (GAA) is a good candidate for its high gain , low return loss and simple structure. This thesis is devoted to the analysis of the characteristics of mm wave Grid Array Antennas, design of 10 GHz chain antenna and 60 GHz 20 grid array antenna. A superior antenna is designed basing on the latter one. An introduction is given on the background of 10GHz and 60GHz systems and the development of Grid Array Antenna. The fundamental knowledge of Grid Array Antenna follows the introduction. 10GHz Chain Antenna is designed according to the basic knowledge with high gain and low return loss. 60GHz 20 Grid Array Antenna, which has a different structure, is also designed. After that, a further exploration of the 60GHz Grid Arra y Antenna got excellent result.
