Description
Summary:This dissertation is to introduce miniaturization techniques used in antenna design, especially for the HF frequency range, and apply these techniques to design a compact, broadband and omni-directional antenna. In modem society, antenna is more and more widely used in electronic equipment and portable communication devices. Consumers want the device to be portable. System designers like the device to be easily installed. These require the antenna size to be small . Miniaturization techniques of antenna become a subject of extensive investigation. Various methods to minimize the size of HF antenna, mainly bending and loading methods, are presented in this dissertation. Each method has its own advantages and suitable application. Finally, a bow-tie shaped antenna is proposed. Matching techniques are also discussed. Ansys High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) is chosen as the simulation tool. This dissertation also introduces the use of HFSS software, and simulates a few miniaturized designs of HF dipole antenna. Their advantages and disadvantages are also compared and discussed.
