Summary:This thesis studies the maternal family saga created in Mainland China in the 1990s. The first chapter focuses on the definition of family saga in the context of China, the gender discourse and the literature review of current research. The second chapter uses Feathered Serpent to exam how the maternal family saga describes the blood ties, an important theme in traditional Chinese family narration. Chapter three discusses the female power in family through reading The Fate 01 a Century. In chapter four, Red-tung Danzhu and Rose Door are two texts discussed to observe the way Chinese female writers describe the female political participation. The texts in chapter five represent two religious writing methods. Reality and Fiction emphasizes the balance of men and women, which is Daoism has mentioned. Feathered Serpent directly uses the salvation thought in Christianism. The sixth chapter as the conclusion summarizes the writing skills of maternal family saga in mainland China in the 1990s.
