Summary: | In this final year project, synthesis of gold, silver and iron oxide@silver nanoparticles were studied. Monodispersed gold nanoparticles and iron oxide@silver core-shell nanoparticles were produced by using the seeded growth reduction method. Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by citrate reduction. The characterization of nanoparticles was analyzed with Ultraviolet-visible Spectroscopy (UV-vis). The sizes of gold nanoparticles were further characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS). The final sizes of gold nanoparticles were 60nm and its absorption peak was at a wavelength of 538nm. Absorption peak of silver nanoparticles was at a wavelength of around 413nm. The effect of different quantities of surfactant added to iron(III) oxide@silver (Fe2O3@Ag) core-shell nanoparticles synthesis was also studied. Triton X-100 was used as surfactant. 100μl, 200μl and 300μl of triton X-100 were tested and found that the absorption spectrum of Fe2O3@Ag nanoparticles with 200μl of triton X-100 had a higher absorbance peak value than that of the other two tested. |
