Residential and commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning systems consume over
35% of all electric energy generated in the world. Also with energy cost rising
constantly, industry is looking to reduce electricity expenses as a means of lowering
their fixed costs in order to stay competitive. There is a possibility to reuse exhaust
rich in thermal energy to drive refrigeration and air-conditioning systems in order to
reduce emission of pollutants. Ejector based refrigerating or cooling systems utilize
low grade sources of heat energy from industrial processes and exhaust from
automobiles. This paper focuses on the development of the most efficient airconditioning
system to be incorporated in automobiles. From amongst many of the
types of air conditioning systems, it is very important to choose the best and bring it
into practical use. The ejector based hybrid system is the main focus of this thesis.
The important components of the ejector based hybrid system include the
compressor, evaporator, condenser, ejector. It is very essential that before the system
is brought into practical use, it needs to be tested for its performance, the
performance is measured is in terms of its COP (coefficient of performance). Each of
the components involved in the system have a significant effect on the overall
performance as a whole. So for each component, a relation is brought between the
most dominant output as a function of their influential inputs using empirical
modelling analysis. Approaches for empirical modelling include polynomial curve
fitting, artificial neural networks and regression analysis. In empirical modelling, a
prior knowledge of the process is not necessity, the complete system is considered a
'black box'. This project relies on experimental data hence it is more likely to relate
to a real time practical application. Thus an experimental investigation is done on the
main components involved in the system using the empirical curve fitting analysis. |
