Description
Summary:The bicycle is one of the earliest mode of human-powered land transport and is still the most popular choice for people from all around the world today. It is lauded for its usefulness and health benefits to cyclists. Advancements in the development of bicycles have led to professional cyclists seeking ways to track their own performance and improve at the sport. The power meter is a type of bicycle accessory that measures the cadence and power of the cyclist, important attributes that determine cycling performance. This project is a continuation of previous research and development work in producing a power meter that is low cost while being more accurate and reliable, as compared to its commercial counterparts in the market. The objective of this project is to further improve the prototype power meter and conduct varied tests of its reliability and performance. This report details the development of the prototype and is divided into two major parts: testing and calibration of the revised printed circuit board (PCB), and development of a crank spider integrated with a full wave bridge rectifier circuit. Concurrent activity includes the revising and deployment of the bicycle rig used to test the prototype.
