Description
Summary:This study will compare Indonesia's decentralization pattern with Spain's by comparing their separatism-determinant factors as well as their political and economic frameworks. The formation of the EU has redefined Catalan trade pattern and pulled its economy away from Spain, making it more embedded in EU economically. With the process of ASEAN integration in the works, this paper will make predictions concerning the impact of AEC on Indonesian critical regions, in particular, Aceh and the likelihood of Catalonia's current predicament of becoming Aceh's future. Whilst nationalist undercurrents will always color the regional relationships with the central government, the case will be made that the regional trade pattern carries a heavy wattage vis-a-vis separatist triggers.
