This paper argues that Iceland should adopt a counter terrorism strategy
similar to that of the European Union Strategy of 2007. In addition to this,
Iceland needs to strengthen domestic intelligence gathering while
maintaining strong partnership with allies in both Europe and North
America. The question that this paper attempts to answer is what counter
terrorism measures does Iceland need to take to minimize the risk of a
terrorist attack? The paper will analyse why Iceland matters in the global
context of terrorism, the current terrorist threats that Iceland faces and the
counter terrorism measures that Iceland can adopt. The paper analyses
changes that Iceland needs to integrate within its current counter terrorism
strategy as the terrorist threat becomes increasingly global. The various
changes were identified through assessing why Iceland matters when
discussing terrorism, the various threats that Iceland faces and the policies
that Iceland need to follow to combat terrorism. |
