Description
Summary:SIMTech (Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology) is a research institute under A*STAR. Various research groups are formed to focus on different areas of industry manufacturing. During this 10 weeks of industry orientation in SIMTech, I am assigned under Forming Technology Group with the project “Microforming surface texture for friction reduction”. And particularly, metal face sealing technology is chosen to be the case to study. Some experiments in research show that friction between two metal surfaces might not be the smallest when their surfaces are flat. Friction may be further reduced if one of the flat surface has regular dimple with certain shape and certain depth on it (while lube is applied). In order to prove this theory, an equipment need to be designed to demonstrate a confirmation test. This report shows how the equipment is made during the 10 weeks of industry orientation in SIMTech.
