Summary: | This paper is concerned with exploring the relation between movement and spatiality in the postmodern- of how we move, how we experience spatiality and the implications of such a relation. It is an exploration of postmodern spatiality with respect to what it does with us, what we do with it. To conceive of space as an accepted condition in the postmodern is to demonstrate a lack of self-reflexivity and also to limit the plurality that postmodernism is and engenders; whereas to reconfigure postmodern space as spatiality is to recognize that postmodernism cannot be subjugated to static concepts of space demarcated by "master" narratives that confine it to a singularity. This paper argues that one of the underlying motivations that pervade postmodernist fiction is a theory of movement that allows it to comment on wider issues without becoming a paradox of its own construct. |
