Summary:This thesis examines the potential development for energy-related applications, mainly hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) using various underexplored materials, as well as different techniques in the electrochemical aspect. This thesis is divided into two sections, where Section I discusses the electrocatalytic capacities of various types of layered materials in the aforementioned applications, and Section II covers a new method of detecting the electrocatalytic abilities and size of the materials involved – impact electrochemistry. Firstly, a brief introduction to the whole thesis is presented in Chapter 1. Section I spans the next 5 chapters, Chapters 2-6, where the electrochemistry and electrocatalysis of five groups of layered materials were discussed. Section II is exemplified in Chapter 7, where the concept of impact electrochemistry, along with its application in HER catalysis and size determination of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) was studied. Finally, Chapter 8 concludes the thesis with a short summary and outlook of this work.
