Summary: | This dissertation explores the impact of existing regional energy institutions on the much purported Southeast Asian energy market integration (EMI). It seeks to bridge neoliberal espousement of regional energy regimes and institutions with political economy determinants that induce broad cooperation at the supra-state level, specifically probing at institutional factors that could lead states to converge on certain policy points, i.e. attainment of benefits derived from the provision of regional public goods. As such, the regional public goods framework is employed to examine which aspects of EMI should be prioritised on regional agendas that requires greater agency and structure within governance. Taken together, these form a guiding framework to illuminate the impact of institutions and market structures on EMI in ASEAN and the ED. |
