This is mainly due to the fact that bacterial transmission can occur via the hands. Hand-washing, being one of the components of achieving hand hygiene, is thus vital in the role of preventing nosocomial infections. However, the hand-washing compliance among health-care workers are considerably bad, and this could be reasons like insufficient and also the lack of facilities and equipments. Even so, the major determinants of poor hand-washing compliance among health-care workers (HCWs) can be related to the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). This report shows how the components of the TPB – attitudes, perceived behavioural control, and subjective norms play an important role in hand-washing practices. A questionnaire has been designed to be issued to HCWs, which would help in obtaining the reasons why HCWs have poor hand-washing practices. This questionnaire also posts questions to find answers to how the TPB affects hand-washing compliance. Possible solutions to improve hand-washing compliance can also be extracted after the analysis of the results of the questionnaire.
