| Summary: | Singapore is a multicultural country where most of its people are bilingual in English and their mother tongue language, and they are able to code-switch from one language to another. The Chinese blogosphere in Singapore is a platform where this switch can be witnessed. Due to the nature of blogging where bloggers are able to prepare and plan their writing before publishing any content, in contrast to the spontaneous nature of face-to-face interaction, it is argued that language choice and language use is intentional as well and carries social meaning. Therefore, based on the conception that language is contextual, this paper seeks to understand the dialectics of language use in the Chinese blogosphere in Singapore. |
