As we re-examine the marriage views which ties down traditional Chinese women, we realized the entire patriarchal society has always been suppressing the social status of women, the lower caste status of women and their lack of freedom and rights just serves to remind us of the inequality faced by Chinese women. Enter the 20th century, China experienced the reformation of her society and values. Changing priorities in love and marriage leads to a revolution. From having no other marriage option, Chinese women see the light to gaining their right to decide for themselves on their own life partners. The rise of feminism in China finally empower and liberate Chinese women, coupled with the influx of western cultures and values, Chinese women are finally able to break out of their arranged marriages and have the right and freedom to seek the love of their lives. However, as feminism starts to gain more prominence in the China, the loss of traditional values seems to have a detrimental effect on the modern marriage views. Through the study of popular matchmaking program “If You Are the One”, this paper seeks to examine the changing trends in the marriage views and value of Chinese women, and try to strike a balance between the traditional marriage views and modern unhealthy marriage views on mass media.
