Make biometric mobile

Biometric identification is an important security measure implemented in various different ways from identifying legitimate researcher in labs to attendance verification in fast food chains. It replaces the need for traditional passwords and PINs which could easily be stolen or forgotten. However, a...

It replaces the need for traditional passwords and PINs which could easily be stolen or forgotten. However, aside from biometrics that costs extra such as fingerprint biometrics, there is a biometric approach where it does not factor in any additional costs and still enjoy the same security benefits. A persons’ traits is unique to each self and it cannot be replicated like fingerprints. These traits are considered as biometrics where we can identify the person by use of technological equipment. The biometrics are then verified against the database to authenticate the person based on the matching rate. With the increase in technological changes, mobile devices are more powerful and equipped with better processor. More often than not, we would store sensitive information or data we would like to secure in an event or stolen phone or hacked device. However, with the available security measures in place, it is easily broken and not secure enough. Fortunately, most of these devices are equipped with a common item, the camera which is powerful enough to capture the minute details of our palm print. This project shows the efficiency of the devices and the difference in the speed when the matching is done.  Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science) 2016-04-01T08:55:00Z 2016-04-01T08:55:00Z 2016 Final Year Project (FYP) http://hdl.handle.net/10356/66407 en Nanyang Technological University 37 p. application/pdf
