According to a research study by data analytics company, Nielsen, users between the ages of 25-44 years use an average of 29 applications per month [1]. It is estimated that nearly 2 billion people use smartphones today and this number is expected to grow to 3 billion by 2018 [2]. Smartphone Applications allow individuals to work on the go, saving them time and boosting their productivity. The time that is spent on researching, browsing, planning and sharing can be reduced drastically through the simple use of dedicated applications on smartphones. Users are known to prefer Lifestyle Applications as the fourth most important tools on their phone after Gaming, Business and Education Applications [3]. Hence, it is evident that mobile applications clearly play a big role in the lives of all smartphone users. Surprisingly, while there are over 1.5 million active applications on the Apple Store today [4], only a fraction of these are dedicated to helping a user plan their most basic of needs – their meals. Hence, taking into consideration users’ needs to optimize the time spent on planning meals, is the need of the hour. The idea and application developed for the Final Year Project are aimed towards developing a user-friendly mobile application that will allow users to optimize their menu planning as per their detailed needs. Leveraging on one of the several discussed methods to ensure optimal search results as per the constraints set by the user, the application will concur the existing gap while discussing plausible technical challenges in the scalability of such an application.
