Summary:Purpose: This study investigates the body’s immune responses to resistance exercise (RE) that were performed over either 3 consecutive days (C) or non-consecutive days (NC). Method: Twenty-one young, healthy men performed 3 RE sessions over either 3C or 3NC. Blood was collected before 1st RE session (Pre-RE), immediately post 3rd RE session (0h Post) and 24h post 3rd RE session (24h Post), and was analysed for select immune markers: leukocyte (L), lymphocyte (LY) and eosinophils (EO). Results: Significant main effect of time was observed for L (p < .001) and LY (p < .001). There was also decrease in L at 24h Post compared to Pre-RE (p = .043) and 0h Post (p < .001), as well as increase in LY at 0h Post compared to Pre-RE (p = .006) and 24h Post (p < .001). There were no changes in EO and no differences in immune responses to RE performed over C or NC. Conclusion: Performing multiple bouts of RE over C or NC induced similar immune responses.
