Summary: | The Internet of Things, or “IoT” in short, refers to an internetwork of everyday objects
which are embedded systems that allow these objects to send and receive data from each
other, without any form of human intervention. Due to the rapidly growing numbers of
IoT devices, IoT security has been of utmost importance for all IoT hardware and software
vendors. The aim of this report is to provide a documentation of the in-depth study of
communication channels for the Internet of Things (IoT) devices and identify the gaps of
existing security protocols of IoT communication channels. In this report, two
authentication concepts (Passphrase-based and One-Time Password) and a lightweight
Intrusion Detection System were proposed to solve the issue on “Insufficient
Authentication/Authorization”, based on the OWASP Top 10 Internet of Things
vulnerabilities, taking into consideration the resource constraints of current IoT devices. |
