Description
Summary:Green buildings are becoming increasingly popular in Singapore and it is often easy for a misinformed individual to make a wrong decision of employing the wrong type of green roof technology for a building. There are often many hidden costs in different parts of the life cycle of these technologies. The purpose of this paper is thus to inform the general public the importance of being fully informed of green building technologies when making a decision to install or design an environmentally friendly roof. This is achieved by conducting a preliminary comparison analysis from different approaches to determine the most environmentally friendly roof technology. This paper sheds light on the real possible environmental costs incurred in engaging such green building technologies in Singapore. It also provides a glimpse of the possible difficulties that will be faced. Thus large amounts of research and planning have to be done before making a decision for green building technology.
