The testbed is equipped with measuring instruments which consists of crystalline and thin film photovoltaic modules placed in different configurations, an array of solar irradiance sensors, a sun tracker device, solar inverters and a weather station. The data captured by these instruments will be used for future solar research. The data collected for study is the amount of direct normal irradiance, diffuse horizontal irradiance and global horizontal irradiance. Other captured data includes solar power and energy generated as well as weather temperature, rainfall and directional wind speed. The data is recorded and stored by each instrument via different means. The solar irradiance sensor array and sun tracker is each connected to an external data logger while the solar inverters and weather station transmit measured data back to its vendor for storage. A web portal is needed to automatically retrieve up to date research data from each instrument and display it on a centralised online platform for study by research staff. This project looks at the requirements for the portal and retrieval from each instrument, the development process and recommendations to host within the university domain.
