As such, there are “English as a foreign language” tests in place to examine the level of English proficiency of those who are not native users of English. In this project, the focus will be on the College English Test (CET), an “English as a foreign language” test held in China. The CET is taken by 18 million people annually to determine the English proficiency of undergraduate and postgraduate students in China and being able to score in the CET will provide one with the option to work or study overseas where English is a native language. With the huge population sitting for the CET, there is an increase in the demand for online practice and revision. To meet with the demand, more websites have surfaced. However, not many websites provide the option of personalized learning. There are many sections in the CET and the main focus of this project is to develop a web application to assist undergraduates and postgraduates in acing the cloze passages section by providing a user profile for personalized learning.
