Summary: | This report provides a comprehensive view on the need for physical layer security.
The security of wireless networks has long been a topic of discussion. From the introduction of the first wireless security standard in WEP to the current standard now of WPA2, adversaries seem to be always able to find a way to break into these wireless networks. Even with the implementation of security via cryptographic technologies at the higher layers of the OSI model, because of the vulnerabilities of using cryptographic measures as well as the exponential growth of computational power which makes it easier to crack ciphers, there is always a worry if whether a data transmitted across a wireless network is secure or not.
In a bid to find a security solution that is provably unbreakable, research and studies have been conducted in the area of physical layer security in this past decade. The aim of physical layer security is to use the channel coding design to ensure the security of the data transmitted. This project will discuss an overview of a cognitive radio network system model in which this project will be based on. This project will then analyze several optimization problems and derive solutions to these problems.
We conclude by discussing the observations and results, as well as the potential research directions in this area. |
