Summary: | The idea of a 3D virtual museum is to use computer graphics, virtual reality and web-applications to create virtual museums that enable user to take a virtual, selfguided, room-by-room walking tour in the museum. In this specific project, the task is to create a virtual 3D Chinese Heritage Centre. The main objective of the project is to create a Chinese Heritage Centre as a case study to evaluate how mature the current 3D modeling technologies are and how realistic a virtual museum can be. The other objective is that the 3D model can be a potential use of the promotion for tourist wanting to visit the Chinese Heritage Centre. The 3D model can be used as a showcase of the content inside the museum in order to inspire the tourist to see the true content inside the 3D virtual museum. The project includes two steps. The first step is to construct a 3D model of the Chinese Heritage Centre using the Autodesk 3DS Max software. The second step is converting the model into web-friendly format and put it up onto the website. In the project, the format is Unity3D. In the project, the Unity3D version of the virtual museum is constructed and the visitor is able to navigate through the whole museum using keyboard keys and mouse to take a first-person control self-guided tour. The virtual museum shows the basic content of the exhibition but is not as realistic because of the quality of the artifact. The museum provide quite good visiting experience but can be enhanced on user interaction. |
