In this report, multiple synthesis methods of chalcogenides, such as hydrazine-hydrothermal method, surfactant-thermal process and solution process studied by researchers will be discussed. In addition, some beneficial uses of chalcogenides in various fields explored by researchers will also be touched on. The experimental experience of the author will be described in the subsequent sections, which include the materials and methodology adopted. The results obtained was mainly via the surfactant-thermal synthesis process, and three of the most noteworthy synthesis reactions performed by the author will be analyzed. These comprise of reactions using Cu powder, S, Sb2S3 powder, Na4SnS4·14H2O, Cu2S powder and applicable surfactants and amines as precursors. The crystal structures and possible application in the field of lithium ion batteries of the successfully synthesized crystalline chalcogenides obtained will be studied based on tests performed on the compounds. Further studies should be conducted to synthesize more stable and useful chalcogenides.
