Current installation method is analysed and the limitations to the assembling process are determined. In this project, new handling tools were designed for the purpose of improving the assembling process of Speedloc segmented clamp by tackling the limitations met by the current installation method. Engineering design concepts were applied throughout the design process as it provides for a systematic series of steps to come up with a relevant and functional design. Essential functions to overcome the limitations were identified and possible solutions to these functions were thought out. Various conceptual designs consisting of these solutions were compared against each other based on the criteria set out to identify the better design. Further improvements and refinements following a set of principles were made to the chosen design so as to create an enhanced design in terms of material usage, reliability and safety. Engineering calculations and structural analysis were carried out on each of the handling tools to assess the reliability and integrity of the design during operation. Manual calculations were done on simple shapes and sizes of the object while ANSYS Workbench was used to analysis the stress distribution throughout the components with complex geometries.
