The act of eating together as a family not only brings together the members of the family at the physical dining table, but it also provides opportunities for family interaction and communication, creating an everyday ritual that encourages family bonding. In recent years, people around the world are forming another kind of family relationship outside of their biological family through work and connectivity. Caught up in their busy lifestyle, they tend to be less committed in their one and only biological family. As part of this project, interviews have been conducted with an accumulation of 4 Singaporean young adults from different family backgrounds. By interviewing and observing these 4 Singaporean families, Folk Fare aims to use graphic design to investigate family dynamics through unveiling visual narratives of family commensality in the hope of getting Singaporeans to reflect upon the importance of family meals.
