Description
Summary:A tall building that stands for twenty years has some foundation columns that buckle and crack. From the previous studies, it is stated that the concrete column strength is lower than the design column strength. Taking into consideration of material deterioration over the years, there must be external factors that caused the column failure. The external factors that cause the foundation columns to buckle after twenty years may be lead to two factors. The two factors are ground settlement that cause by the on-going construction besides the tall building and water tank load that is added on top of the tall building. In this report, ground settlement will be analyses specifically. The software ETABS 2015 will be used to draw out the tall building for analysis. The values generated will be used for different calculations to determine ultimate column forces, baseline forces and ground settlement forces acting on the columns that buckled. Different cases of ground settlement will be analyses in this report to find out the different possibilities that causes the buckling of the columns specifically column P9.
