Description
Summary:The increase in life expectancy has led to the aging of the Singapore’s population. Researches have shown the relationship between the surrounding environment and the quality of life of the elderly. Therefore, with the recent advancement in sensing and networking technologies, we are now able to probe and gain insight of the daily surrounding environment of the elderly. The data collected would be of great help in planning and developing a livable environment for the elderly. In this project, a healthcare application was developed to monitor human motion and their surrounding environment. The R&D prototype will be tested in local hospitals, aimed to gain insight of the everyday activities and surrounding environment of the elderly. The healthcare application comprised an Arduino and an Android application. The Arduino was equipped with a GPS Location Sensor, temperature sensor and ambience noise sensor. A Bluetooth connection was made between the Arduino and the Android application, and the data collected from the sensors were transferred to the Android application through the connection. The data were analyzed and visualized through the Android application.
