Summary: | Paranoia, is a visual effects (VFX) short film produced by a team of two – Centaine Lim and myself. Takes place in a desert, Paranoia is the story of an ex-military man’s encounter with a mysterious entity lurking in the desert. He must find his way out of the heat before he is forced to confront a recurring personal demon.
Approach
The project primary goal is to examine and undergo the visual effects pipeline, as well as the technical exploration of 3D, 2D compositing and tracking software such as Maya, Mudbox, NukeStudio and Nuke.
In addition, since it is a visual effects project, filming was also a huge and significant part of the project. It was shot at a private sand depository at Punggol with a Blackmagic URSA 4K PL production camera.
Originality/Value
Paranoia is one of the few VFX final year projects in the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM); in this current animation batch, we are the only group producing a live action visual effects film. It is also one of the few examples of a multi-disciplinary collaboration across different majors. Furthermore, most of our shots are filmed outdoors instead of in a green screen studio, and all the visual effects such as sky replacement (luminance key) are done on these footages.
