Summary: | In this project report, the objective is to design and build a switching inverting regulator using MC 34063A microchip. As the non-stop advancement in technology, there are more specification demands to meet to power up these electrical devices. Therefore, the MC 34063A microchip is being widely used in the world today because of its versatility. Every different device requires a specific different supply in order to operate. Depending on the different application, with an external circuit connection, the MC 34063A microchip can become a boost (step-up), buck (step-down) or buck-boost (inverting) regulator. The parameters in this project are to output a -12V DC which is able to supply to a 200mA load from a 5V ± 5% input voltage from a Universal Serial Bus (USB).
Results of the experiments are recorded, analyzed and compared with theoretical predictions. Loads of different values are also tested to examine the effect of the loads on the switching inverting regulator. With the help from this report and other similar reports, all of the three different regulators can be design and build onto a single board which can be change by just flipping a switch. In addition, there is a need to enhance the efficiency of the switching inverting regulator. |
