Summary: | Sounds revolve around us and people use sounds all the time. People use sounds for entertainment, communication and other uses that convey messages. Sound can tell us a lot about our environment or even invoke our memories. It is very crucial for people whether it is to perceive the location where the sound came from or expressing something, like a fire alarm that warns us about danger.
This project was inspired by the desire of finding a relationship between colour-scribbling drawing images and sounds. Such drawings are visual representations made with markers on an actual white piece of paper that the author has collected and collaborated with students at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The scanned images of the drawings will then go through a programmed interface and produced sonification. The drawings will split into smaller pixels and identified the presence of the the colours, red, green and blue, in this project. Different pitches of the sounds were changed according to the location of the colours in the piece of paper. Parameter mapping sonification was used for this project and will be covered in this report. The development and implementation of the project will be further discussed as well. |
