Besides time, geographical location becomes another important factor to trace people’s daily life. This project aims to develop a map-based social network application. It presents a creative way to visualize social network data on maps. Responsive page design makes it applicable for different platforms and machines. The application follows the trend in data visualization and social network development. It helps people keep track of travelling experiences and stay in contact with friends around the world. Users will be aware of the distribution of their social network during interaction with maps. This report outlines the design and development process of the application. Main programming languages used in the project are HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. MySQL database is used for data storage and management. XAMPP provides the local server service. Google Map API makes the idea of this project possible, since it contains enough features to support responsive map development. As a result, primary structure of the application has been formed. The application itself has a substantial set of functionalities to work properly and independently. Further implementation can be explored to improve efficiency and identify more potential of map-based social network systems.
