Summary: | This purpose of this project is to design and implement a haptic stylus mechanism to be used with a tablet device. The user will experience force feedback as a reaction to probing on the tablet device with the haptic stylus. The haptic stylus is designed to have a substantially constant restoring force and is capable of having its position locked with a special braking assembly. The user will be able to feel the object pushing back and encounter resistance from the virtual surface. Haptic technology enables you to feel things that are not physically there. When virtual objects are touched, they seem real and tangible. In this project, the haptic stylus will be used on an Android phone. An Android application was created to be used with the haptic stylus. When the user probes on an image on the Android application, a signal is sent via Bluetooth to Arduino to control the motor, which determines and controls the probe movement. Several experiments were carried out and improvements were made to the haptic stylus with results from each experiment. Recommendations for future work are discussed at the end of the report. |
