Renewable energy using fuel cell technology

Energy is one of the most valuable commodities in the world’s market today. Fossil fuels have been primarily used to support the society’s energy needs. However, fossil fuel is a non-renewable energy resource and it will eventually be diminished due to the ever rising energy demands. Furthermore, us...

Fossil fuels have been primarily used to support the society’s energy needs. However, fossil fuel is a non-renewable energy resource and it will eventually be diminished due to the ever rising energy demands. Furthermore, using fossil fuels to generate the required energy pollutes the environment. Therefore, there is a need to develop a viable replacement in order to handle the world’s energy demands. Fuel cell technology has been earmarked as a potential alternative as a sustainable renewable energy resource. Fuel cell technology undergoes an electrochemical reaction to directly generate electricity. Fuel cell technology is both renewable and has low repercussions towards the environment. However, fuel cells do have certain complications in terms of high cost and storage. This research study will focus on the development of fuel cell technology as a viable replacement for fossil fuels. Special attention will be paid towards applications in the portable region. Fuel cells have the potential to offer a viable alternative to the standard lithium ion batteries to produce an electrical output for small electronic equipment. Furthermore, recent studies suggest that there are encouraging signs in improving the cost effectiveness of fuel cells. This increases the likelihood for fuel cell technology to be fully embraced in the near future.
