Summary: | There is no doubt that today’s technological advancements bring us to greater heights of achievements. But that does not necessarily include perfection.
As a huge aviation enthusiast, being a former Senior Licensed Aircraft Engineer for the Commercial Aircrafts with Singapore Airlines Engineering and a current Engine Technical Specialist for the General Aviation Aircrafts with Pratt & Whitney Canada; I have come to realize that technology is not the predominant answer to perfect a design. It is a mere useful tool to help aid us to achieve a better design. The answer still originates from our minds.
In the Aviation world, a Fuel Metering Valve is a component that is found integral to the Fuel Metering Unit that is mounted on engines. Commonly, this valve becomes faulty in operation which leads to a series of issues ranging from fuel leaks to engines starting problems. There is no way of solely changing this valve. One would have to change the entire fuel metering unit, which acquires a lot of money and contributes to down time.
This research looks into optimizing the design of the fuel metering valve. Several current designs were thoroughly analysed and a final design was proposed in the hope of eliminating having to replace the very costly fuel metering unit on every occurrence of a metering valve failure. |
