Reliability updating of nonlinear dynamic systems using unknown vibration data

Prior evaluation of existing structure has been a very important subject for civil engineers in order to avoid catastrophic building collapses that causes loss to every aspect of human life. Subjected to vibrations, either they are as strong as earthquakes or as subtle as ambient ones, there is always exist a necessity to prevent them to fail from such vibrations. Thus, the need of model updating emerged to assess the structures. In this study, stochastic model updating technique is used to account for the inevitable uncertainties due to lack of precise information. In particular, Transitional Markov Chain Monte Carlo (TMCMC) method is adopted as a way to do the updating of dynamic structural model.
