Description
Summary:This report is aimed to study the velocities of different sizes particle grains in several channel conditions varied in flow volume, angles of the slopes. In the past century, there were many excellent and precise experiments around the relationship between shear velocity and grain velocity. The linearity in the relationship has been revealed in different approaches. These experiments done by scientists lead to clear experimental approach today in conducting this experiment. While technology becomes more and more advanced, the experiment apparatus is also friendly to use. Although the results of the experiment in this report could be not following the theoretical results in a strict manner, analysis about the errors can lead to better understanding in the theory. The important values to control in this experiment are particle types, sizes, discharge volume, slope angle of the channel bed. The actual measurement in this experiment is the travel time of the particle grains in the channel flume. Then the average velocity is calculated in repetitive measurements. Therefore, the results in today’s experiment are going to be checked against the results in the past paper. In order to obtain better analytical results, the idea of dimensional analysis is applied in the discussion. The ultimate goal in this experiment is observe the linearity in data graphs then present proper reasons to explain the trend in the relationship between shear velocity and grain velocity.
